Why is inflation a societal problem?

Inflation can pose many inevitable problems. First off, in extreme cases people will often times spend their cash as soon as possible in order to avoid inflation. In other words, they will exchange money for goods that will maintain their value rather than keep the money which will lose value do to inflation.
Another problem is that people often disregard inflation when discussing things like growth, price changes, etc. Nominal numbers cannot give us accurate information because inflation plays an important role in determining how much the value of an economy grew or of a price changed, if it really did at all.
Things like fixed incomes or fixed mortgages can be dangerous as well because they cannot adjust based on inflation.

  1. You showed a solid understanding of inflation. What about lending and investment practices?
